About Career and Technical Education at Weymouth High School

Weymouth High School is a comprehensive school offering a ten program Career and Technical Education Department including Allied Health, Automotive Technology, Construction Technology, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Drafting and Design Technology, Early Childhood Education, Graphic Communication, Information Technology, and Metal Fabrication. All ten programs are approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and as such, are closely monitored by the DESE.

Students enter the CTE program in 9th grade as they explore each area. This fast-paced, constantly evolving program, presents introductory information to all students from all Career and Technical areas for three full terms. Students are graded daily throughout each day in each program. After this experience, the student will choose three areas of concentration and will be placed in one based on rank order score of the average of all ten programs.

This introduction is followed by three years of progressively intensive study in their chosen field. During this time, the student is encouraged and directed to concentrate on the achievement of a nationally recognized standard such as ServeSafe, and every student is required to attain an OSHA 10 certificate. All career and technical education students are on a direct pathway to post-secondary education in the form of an associate degree or higher. This is accomplished through articulation agreements with Colleges and Technical Institutes in the United States.

Career and Technical Education students are athletes, scholars, musicians, and artists. They are the leaders of the school and hardworking young men and women, who are risk-takers and the business owners of tomorrow.
