CTE Information for Middle School Students

Are you interested in Career and Technical Education? Great!

Does Everyone Take CTE?

No, only those students who have applied and been accepted into the program.

8th Grade Tour

Learn more about each of our 10 programs during the CTE tour during 8th grade. All 8th grade students will be bused to the high school to tour our CTE programs. During this time, students may ask questions of both students and teachers. This is an opportunity for incoming students to experience the shops one by one and to get a look at the work environment. All of our programs simulate the actual workplace and all of our instructors were professionals in their fields before becoming teachers!

Getting In

Any student wishing to be enrolled in CTE starts with an Application for Admission. These applications are available both on the CTE webpage and through the grade 8 Guidance Office.

When considering students for acceptance, we look at:

  • Academic Grades - Yes!
    • We look at academic grades from grade 7 and grade 8. If you are accepted into CTE, you'll have to work hard to maintain your grades and stay on track for graduation. Students who are not on track for graduation may be removed from CTE.
  • Attendance -
    • We need you to be here immersed and engaged to ensure you get the most you possibly can get from our programs. Students have the opportunity to earn professional credentials in their program giving them the distinct advantage of a choice to go directly into the workforce or move on to post-secondary education. College? Yes! A large percentage of our students go on to college.
  • Discipline -
    • The unique setting which mimics the actual workplace means that our enrolled students must always comply with rules and safety guidelines giving every student the opportunity to learn and grow.
  • Educator Recommendation

*The criteria for acceptance are based on the Admission Policy. Our Admission Policy is approved by both the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Weymouth School Committee.

Bottom Line?

Your middle school years are extremely important to your success in high school! Do your best every day!
