(Weymouth, MA) Weymouth Public Schools is pleased to announce Melanie Curtin has been selected as the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services and Support.  She will fill the position being vacated by incoming Superintendent Robert Wargo.

Melanie has been an integral part of Weymouth Public Schools for 18 years.  She has spent the last 4 years as the Assistant Director of Instructional Services and Supports, and the EL Coordinator for the district. She worked for 10 years at Weymouth High School as a teacher in the history department, a Dean, and Associate Principal.  Melanie is a graduate of Weymouth High School, and an inductee of the Weymouth High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

“Melanie is a consummate professional and an immense asset to Weymouth Public Schools,” Interim Superintendent Kathleen Smith said. “Ms. Curtin understands this community and the families who live here, and will make a tremendous Assistant Superintendent.  Any time a district can promote a professional with the talent, skills, compassion, and forward thinking that Ms. Curtin possesses, who is also ingrained in the culture, it’s a win for the entire Weymouth community.”

Of her many achievements, some of Ms. Curtin’s most profound accomplishments occurred at the school level.  In addition to teaching psychology and sociology at Weymouth High School, Ms. Curtin was a community service learning instructor, and was instrumental in the creation of the Weymouth Market.  Once identified as a district eligible for funding by the Greater Boston Food District, she worked with former Assistant Superintendent, Mary Ann Bryan, to get the Market off the ground.  The Weymouth Market, available to the entire community, began in 2017 and remained open through the COVID-19 pandemic, providing food and emergency assistance to families in need.

When asked about her career choice to remain in Weymouth, and selection as the next Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Supports and Services, Melanie said, “My mom and dad always raised me to give back.  I’m excited, and truly honored, to have been selected, and be able to give back to a community that has given me so many opportunities throughout my life.”

Melanie has a masters in school administration from Bridgewater State University, a masters in education from Fitchburg State, and a bachelor of science from Jacksonville University.

Prior to her career in education, Melanie played professional golf for three years on the Futures Golf Tour.  She is also a former tennis player, and enjoys a game of pickle-ball.
