Weymouth Public Schools Celebrates Graduating Class of 2021

Interim Superintendent Kathleen Smith, Principal Alan Strauss and Assistant Principal Karen Monahan are pleased to announce the graduation of 396 students from Weymouth High School.

On Saturday, June 5 a graduation ceremony was held outdoors at Weymouth's Sgt. Jeffrey Mullin Football Field at 10 a.m. for Weymouth High School's graduating Class of 2021. With the ceremony held outdoors, graduates were able to invite as many friends and family members as they liked. Unvaccinated attendees were advised to wear masks to the outdoor event, per state COVID-19 public health guidance.

"I would like to congratulate all of our seniors on officially graduating this past Saturday," Principal Strauss said. "Despite the many challenges our students have faced over the last year and a half, our seniors' spirits didn't waver. It was a pleasure of ours to celebrate the Class of 2021, along with their family and friends, at our in-person ceremony as it was a great way to end the school year and their high school careers."

The graduation ceremony included a welcome address and graduation addresses from the valedictorian, salutatorian, class president, Senior Dean, Interim Superintendent Smith and Principal Strauss. Diplomas were awarded at the ceremony by School Committee Members and Interim Superintendent Smith.

The Class of 2021 Valedictorian is William Livezey-Corr and the Class of 2021 Salutatorian is Alyssa McInnis. The 2021 Class President is Julianna Amendolare.

To celebrate the Class of 2021 and their accomplishments, Weymouth High School also hosted an array of events leading up to the graduation ceremony to commemorate the graduating class.

"After experiencing a senior year greatly affected by the global health pandemic, we wanted to take as many opportunities as possible to celebrate all of our students’ accomplishments," Assistant Principal Monahan said. "It was a goal of ours to explore other options that would be feasible for us to safely celebrate our students in a fun, unique way. Even though these events weren't the typical ones we usually host, our students were still very enthusiastic to have these final few moments together."

In place of this year's senior events that were canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Weymouth High School hosted an outdoor gala as a final celebration for the Class of 2021 on June 1.

The outdoor gala featured a mix of events in an effort to combine all canceled senior events including the senior breakfast, cookout, video, cruise and dances. Activities at the gala included carnival games, a viewing of the senior video, yearbook distribution and signings and music. Numerous food trucks were present as well.

The outdoor gala and all of its activities were generously sponsored by community partners, the parent council, prom committee and local businesses.

Additionally, numerous award ceremonies were hosted by Weymouth High School to recognize the Class of 2021's accomplishments.

A virtual National Honor Society award ceremony was held on May 13 and a virtual World Language Honor Society award ceremony was held on May 20.

A virtual Senior Scholarship and Award ceremony was hosted on May 19. During the virtual Scholarship and Award night, students were awarded scholarships and awards for outstanding performances in academics, athletics and involvement in school organizations.

Scholarships totaling $84,000 were awarded to seniors at the awards night by local businesses, organizations and groups.

Members of the Class of 2021 were also recognized on May 21 during Weymouth High School's scholar wall induction ceremony. On this day, students who excelled in academics, were members of any honor societies, performed exceptionally well on testing or participated in numerous AP courses were added to the wall.

"The Class of 2021 worked extremely hard throughout their high school careers, and we wanted to ensure that these students were recognized for their accomplishments without any further COVID-19 hindrances," Interim Superintendent Smith said. "While this year's celebrations may have looked a little different, we are pleased with how receptive our seniors were to the senior events we were able to host. I wish them all the best in the next chapter of their lives."
