Message to Families - May 7, 2021

Dear Weymouth School Community,

We’re entering into the final stretch of the school year, and planning an entire month of appreciation and thanks to our school community.

This week we celebrated our educators during National Teacher Appreciation week. Our educators, and entire staff, have gone to extraordinary lengths to meet the needs of our students and families.  We are grateful for their efforts this year, and every year.

We’re inviting the community to join us as we continue to recognize the entire staff at Weymouth Public Schools throughout the month of May.   As a part of our month of appreciation, we welcome you to complete a “Kind Words” form to offer a few words of thanks to any staff member. We’ll share those words directly with the recipient as a reminder of just how valued they are. You can also join our appreciation campaign on Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag #thankyouWeymouthSchools.

This week we recognized Children’s Mental Health Awareness, and held the Special Olympics at schools across the district.  We had a great week advocating for an important cause, and celebrating our Special Olympians.

As we approach the end of the school year and begin planning end of the year events and activities we would like to remind our families that safety remains our top priority.  The School Department and the Town of Weymouth have developed a 2021 Spring Event Planning Guide that is intended to identify and provide guidance for year-end events and activities, which will be available to the community for viewing soon on our website.

All protocols in the guide are based on recommendations from the CDC and DESE, and were developed with the input of our local partners including School Administrators, Principals, Health Services, Asset Management, Board of Health, DPW, Emergency Management, Fire Department, Police Department, School Resource Officers, Parks and Recreation, Parent Councils, Weymouth SEPAC, booster groups, graduation planning committees, prom planning committee, and South Shore Hospital.

We appreciate the participation and collaboration of everyone involved in developing the guide.  We are grateful to the community at large for their ongoing and collective efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, and for your continued partnership to keep our community, schools, students and families safe.  We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of all our students, safely, during the special events planned this spring.

In closing, to every educator, staff member, and caregiver across our district thank you. Now stand up and give yourself a pat on the back— you deserve it, and so much more.

Best Regards,
Kathleen Smith, JD
Superintendent
