Message to Families - June 11, 2021

Dear Weymouth School Community,

Warmer, brighter days have arrived, and we’re so proud of our entire school community.  As we enter into our final week, we are reminding our families that Friday, June 18 is the last day of school, and will follow a half day schedule for all students grades Pre-K through grade 11.  We’re tying up loose ends to finish our school year strong so we can welcome summer fun, and plan for the return to school next September.

Last weekend we celebrated nearly 400 seniors from Weymouth High School who received their diplomas at graduation. Recognizing their accomplishments--- outdoors, in-person, and without masks, surrounded by family and friends was a momentous occasion in itself.  The energy was hopeful, and inspiring, as we joined together to recognize the end of a journey, and start to a new beginning.  I would like to send a special thank you to our exceptional student speakers who brought messages of positivity and promise.  To view the graduation ceremony in its entirety, please click here.

Next week our middle and primary schools will celebrate the end of the year through virtual celebrations and end of the year events.  We appreciate our parents and families for their partnership as we maintain our commitment to safety, especially amongst our unvaccinated and most vulnerable student populations, as we navigate the end of the school year.

Last week our Health Department, in partnership with Brewster Ambulance, held our first of two vaccine clinics for students 12 and older and their families at Weymouth High School. More than 200 students and families registered for the event.  The second dose for students and families who participated will be provided at the follow-up clinic on June 28.  Any student or families who were unable to attend, and need help finding a vaccine, can contact the Health Services Department.

We are encouraged, and happy to report that last week the district reported zero positive cases of COVID-19 in our schools, and there were no students or staff members in quarantine.  We couldn’t think of a more promising way to end the school year.

As we say our final goodbyes throughout the district this week, we would like to encourage parents and caregivers to prepare for a successful summer break. Summer months should be filled with fun, and family, but can also provide opportunities for learning.  Maintaining routines, reading frequently, getting outside, experiencing a new place, and learning something new, like how to cook a dish, grow a garden, or create a work of art can all encourage learning.

Looking to next year we are focusing our efforts on the needs of our students and families, a long term educational vision, and providing programming and services that address the needs of our community. We look forward to sharing news, updates, and announcements with you as we continue planning and transition to next school year. We appreciate your continued support and partnership, and value your feedback as we work together to establish a new normal next year.

Thank you,
Kathleen Smith, JD
