Message to Families - April 9, 2021

Dear Weymouth Public Schools Families,

This week we returned our primary schools to five day in-person instruction.  I had the opportunity to visit our schools and see first hand the excitement in our students, parents, principals and staff. Our surroundings are looking brighter each day. We are so grateful of everyone involved with this process, who collaboratively helped us reach this point.

Last night the school committee reviewed plans to return students in grades 8-12 at Weymouth High School to five day in-person instruction beginning Monday, April 26.  Additionally, Abigail Adams Middle School students grades 6 and 7 will return to five day in-person instruction on Monday, April 26.

As a reminder, Mondays will remain early dismissal days for the remainder of this school year.  Monday early dismissal times are as follows: primary schools early release at 12:25AM,  Abigail Adams Middle School grades 6 and 7 early release at 11:50AM, and grade 8-12 at Weymouth High School early release at 10:45AM.

Primary School parent teacher conferences will be held next Friday, April 16, 2021.  The schedule for conferences is a standard half day dismissal.  Primary schools have a half-day dismissal time of 11:50AM.  Conferences are scheduled to begin at 12:25PM with virtual appointments throughout the afternoon.

We are looking forward to April vacation, and hope our students have an opportunity to safely rest and recharge with their families.  As a reminder, Governor Baker issued a travel advisory on March 22, 2021.  The advisory applies to children over 10, and includes the following guidance:

Any individual who is not fully vaccinated who travels out of the state is advised to receive a COVID-19 negative test result not more than 72 hours prior to returning to Massachusetts, or quarantine upon returning for 10 days, or quarantine until a COVID-19 negative test result is obtained after arriving in Massachusetts.
Children 10 and under are advised to quarantine until a household adult whom they traveled with tests negative for COVID-19 after returning to Massachusetts.
Both the child and adult are advised to quarantine for ten days, or until a negative test result is obtained.

If you or your student have plans to travel, and have questions related to quarantine, please contact your school nurse.

Thank you all for your continued partnership. We are beyond appreciative of everyone who worked diligently this year, in our schools and at home, to stay safe and meet the needs of our students. I am extremely grateful to the Weymouth community for your ability to stand up and come together as we strive to return students to school buildings, athletes to ballfields, musicians to school bands, singers to choirs, and eager minds to all extracurricular activities.

Through safety, planning, and collaboration, together we will succeed.

Thank you,
Kathleen Smith, JD
