Message to Families - April 16, 2021

Dear Weymouth School Families,

As we enter into April vacation, and begin the homestretch of this school year, I would like to remind everyone the importance of practicing safety protocols and adhering to the advisories set by local and state health officials to control the spread of COVID-19.

In our homes, community, and school buildings it is critical to be mindful of our surroundings and to always exercise safety precautions. As you make plans over April vacation, you can pay careful attention to your risk of exposure based on 4 elements Dr. Todd Ellerin from South Shore Health shared with our team: time, space, people and place.

Epidemiologist Dr. William Miller also has a general rule of thumb that is easy to follow: The more time you spend and the closer in space you are to any infected people, the higher your risk. Interacting with more people raises your risk, and indoor places are riskier than outdoors.

The Weymouth Public Schools Social Emotional Learning and Curriculum teams have compiled a list of tips for a healthy school vacation, and fun April vacation activity suggestions for next week’s break. For the full list of tips and suggestions, click here. For Governor Baker’s travel advisory, COVID-19 safety precautions, links and resources, please refer to the end of this communication.

Returning our students to school buildings safely continues to be our priority throughout the return to school process.  We are looking forward to welcoming back our middle and high school students for five day in-person instruction on Monday, April 26.

Please continue to check the weekly message, website, and school communications for the latest information and updates.

As always, thank you for your collaboration, support and partnership as we enter into the final stretch of this school year.  I hope everyone has an opportunity to rest, relax and spend time with their families over April break.  We look forward to seeing all our students back in school on Monday, April 26.

Thank you,
Kathleen Smith, JD
Superintendent
