Greetings from Superintendent Wargo

July 9, 2021
Dear Weymouth Public Schools’ Families,

I am deeply excited to begin my new role as Superintendent of Weymouth Public Schools, and I look forward to meeting all our students, staff, and entire school community in September. I am extremely hopeful and optimistic leading into a school year filled with new beginnings.

As I begin my role as Superintendent, we are evaluating and re-developing our vision to help define desired future teaching, learning, and school facilities concepts for years to come.  This initiative will inspire transformational ideas centered on future learning that will best position our students for success.  I’ve invited the input from a sampling of our entire school community including educators, caregivers, students, School Committee, municipal representatives, and business and institutional leaders, many of whom were able to participate, to invoke an inclusive and collaborative process.

Last month the district announced funding for free full day kindergarten was approved by the Town Council.  Kindergarten registration for the fall remains open, and enrollment information can be found here.  Additionally, the district has submitted a Request for Proposals (RFP) for before and after school care at its elementary schools. An announcement related to before and after school care can be expected by the end of July.  At a minimum, the district is committed to providing after school care beginning in September.

As we transition to a full return to school, we are anticipating many of our students will have additional needs this year.  The district continues to develop plans and prepare resources to address the social-emotional, behavioral, academic, and nutritional needs of our students.  This summer we will survey our families to gauge their needs and collect their input for next year.  I value the feedback of our entire school community, and would like to personally encourage everyone to participate.

We’ll share information in the coming weeks to help our students and families navigate the summer months, and prepare for the upcoming school year.  It is our anticipation that all grades will return to full in-person instruction in September, and at this time we are expecting masks will be optional in outdoor and indoor spaces.

This summer, while we work on the district’s vision, and continue planning for next school year, my wish for you is simple.  When it is safe to do so, spend time with your loved ones, engage in the many life traditions and celebrations we were forced to forego, and when it comes to your kids, and our kids, let them be kids.

I am humbled, and inspired, to work with our students, their families, and the incredible administrators, educators, school leaders, and all school staff here at Weymouth Public Schools, and I am more excited than ever to see you in-person in September!

Best Regards.
Robert Wargo
