First Grade
Throughout the second term in art with Ms. Ratta, students…
● Used collage techniques to create penguins.
● Painted and collaged to make winter cardinals.
● Learned how to paper weave and turn their weavings into a turtle.
● Read the book “Love Monster” and drew their own.
● Read the book “Giraffes Can’t Dance” and created their own dancing giraffes.
● Began working on underwater self-portraits.
 
Second Grade
Throughout the second term in art with Ms. Ratta, students…
● Learned how to create value using oil pastels to make a hot air balloon. They also revisited paper weaving to weave a basket for their balloon.
● Discussed the new color category of neutral colors and used this new knowledge along with creating patterns to draw winter bears.
● Explored foreground, middle ground, and background to create a tree collage.
● Worked on warm colors, cool colors, and line patterns to create warm and cool heart drawings.
● Used paint to learn how to use printmaking techniques to create a tiger.
● Explored the beginning stages of cup weaving.
 
Third Grade
Throughout the second term in art with Ms. Ratta, students…
● Used collage and watercolor techniques to create large scale owl faces.
● Learned to create value with oil pastels to draw candles.
● Used chalk to create Northern Lights.
● Studied the designs of the Ming Dynasty vases to create vases in their own style with inspiration from the Ming Dynasty.
● Used yarn to weave dream catchers.
 
Fourth Grade
Throughout the second term in art with Ms. Ratta, students…
● Used tempera paints to create value landscape paintings.
● Worked on patterns and creating texture to draw animals in sweaters.
● Combined their knowledge of value painting to work together to make a group project block poster to create Ruby Bridges, Maya Angelou, or Martin Luther King Jr. to celebrate black history month.
● Observed the artwork of Wayne Thiebaud to then use oil pastels to create value ice cream drawings.
