Jason Murphy Physical Education Term 2 Progress Report

First Grade.

We started out the term with some rope and activities. Students learned how to use both their upper and lower body strength to do swinging, climbing, and some rope games. This term our classes have focused on indoor team sports and rhythm activities. We worked on team sport skills in sports such as hockey. Students learned dribbling, shooting, and passing as well as various skill games. We did some shoot outs, obstacle courses, and also some relay races that included all these skills. Our main focus in rhythms was jump roping. We did both long and short jump rope activities for warm-ups and for class activities throughout the term. We talked about what other activities we do in class that involve keeping a rhythm and what we can do to while exercising to help us keep a rhythm.

Second Grade.

We started out the term with rope climbing activities. Students demonstrated upper and lower body strength in various swinging and climbing activities. They also participated in group rope challenges and other team building challenges where they had to work as a group to accomplish a common goal. This term we worked on indoor team sports and rhythm activities. Students advanced their knowledge of hockey skills with offensive and defensive strategies. We did various dribbling, passing and shooting drills that emphasized the importance of control. Students eventually broke up into teams and competed in bubble hockey games. Throughout the term, students also worked on jump roping and rhythms. We used both short and long jump ropes in a variety of activities and games. Along with this we talked about what it means to have a healthy heart and what we need to do to ensure we exercise our heart. Students learned about heart rates and how to check their heart rate.

Fourth Grade
