THE SCHOLARSHIP SCOOP
 
TOWN OF WEYMOUTH SCHOLARSHIP 
Any Town of Weymouth resident seeking education beyond high school at a college or institution deemed accredited by the Scholarship Committee is eligible to apply.  For example, high school seniors, citizens currently enrolled in a college program or citizens planning to return to school for additional training. In the interest of fairness, the one exception is that those applicants who have already received two awards will not be considered. Scholarship amounts range from $3000 to $500.  Scholarship applicants are judged on community involvement, academic achievement, character and financial need.

WEYMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL
CLASS OF 2020 SCHOLARSHIP
Applications are available for all members of the class of 2020.  This one application includes many individual scholarships that will be awarded only to Weymouth High School 2020 graduates who complete the application.
ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE NUMBERED AND MUST BE SIGNED OUT BY THE INDIVIDUAL STUDENT WITH MRS HAYESIN THE MAROON GUIDANCE OFFICE.

BOB’S MUFFIN SHOP- JONATHAN “JJ” JANKORD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is made possible by community members coming forward to create a mug, glass and wall with all proceeds benefiting Weymouth High School students.  There will be multiple $500 scholarships awarded. An essay on a life changing event that you (or someone you know)have experienced is required.

SERGEANT MICHAEL CHESNA MEMORIAL FUND SCHOLARSHIP
Sergeant Michael Chesna memorial Scholarship Fund will award a $1000. Scholarship towards two- 2020 Weymouth High School graduates.
Eligible recipients must pursue a post-high school program of education or training in Criminal Justice or a related field and submit the required essay “Describe why you intend to study Criminal Justice”

HENRY DAVID THOREAU FOUNDATION
The Henry David Thoreau scholarship is awarded to outstanding high school seniors who are ready to meet the challenges of the interdisciplinary field of environmental studies.  Win up to a $20,00 tuition scholarship for environmental studies.

YAWKEY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP 
The Yawkey Scholars Program offers scholarship opportunities for students entering college in the fall of 2020 who meets the program criteria.  The program is to help talented and motivated disadvantaged young people meet the rising costs of undergraduate education. Since, 205, The Yawkey Scholars Program has provided more than $13 million in scholarship support to 343 Scholars as they pursue a college education.

THE SHATARA L GRIMSLEY ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP
The Shatara L Grimsley Academic Scholarship $1000 is awarded to worthy graduating high school seniors from a High School in Braintree, Quincy, Brockton, Weymouth and other surrounding schools. To be considered all applicants must be a graduating high school senior, have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.5on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate examples of community and school service and demonstrate financial need, but not restricted to lower income.

MARK BAVIS LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION
The family and friends of Mark Bavis has established a foundation in Mark’s name to preserve his memory and to perpetuate the principle by which he lived everyday and through which he touched the lives of many. Selected recipients will receive annual grants ranging form $1,000 to $5,000 to be used as specifically requested for school tuition, summer programs and other appropriate extracurricular activities.

Applicant must live within Rockland Trust’s service area
Applicants must be entering college for the first time, enrolled as a full time student in an undergraduate course of study which offices courses beyond the high school level.  Enrollment only at accredited colleges, universities and community colleges will be considered.
Applicants must fall in the top 50% of their graduating class.

Music Achievement Scholarship Application
This award is offered to any high school music student planning to attend a college or university in the next academic year.  Applicants will be judged on information provided on the completed application form. The award amount may vary from year to year, depending on the availability of funds, bus has historically averaged around$300 per recipenient

OLD COLONY WOMEN’S SOCCER SCHOLARSHIP 2020
OCWSL is happy to be able to support graduating high school female soccer players that live in Abington, Braintree and Weymouth by offering a $250(one per town)to further support their academic and career goals.
Qualified applicants must complete the scholarship application, which includes your high school transcript and resume and submit a 500 word or less essay.

CHESNA SOCCER JAMBOREE SCHOLARSHIP 
The Chesna Soccer Jamboree is an annual one day soccer jamboree in honor of Weymouth Police Sergeant Michael Chesna who lost his life while protecting our community on July 15, 2018.
50% of funds raised are reserved for students at WHS and Hanover HS.
Interested parties shall produce the following to be eligible for this scholarship:
Completed Application Form, proof of a minimum 3.0 GPA & acceptance into a college degree program with a major in criminal justice, law enforcement or Homeland Security.

THE STEPHEN PHILLIPS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Stephen Phillips Memorial Fund offers renewable, 4-year scholarships to students from New England with financial need who display academic excellence, a commitment to serving others in school, the community or at home and a strong work ethic.  Awards are limited to residents of New England states and range from $3,000 to $18,000.
