Draft of School Committee Handbook - Ms. Nardone clarified the background of the draft handbook. Document was created to be used as a tool for new members. Since all information is documented under Policy B of Weymouth Policy Handbook there is no need for the “School Committee Handbook.” Ms. Nardone is currently collaborating with surrounding School Committees to create a binder of resources for new members. This will be supplemented with a workshop with MASC. Currently working on a date to meet. This will be for all current members of School Committee.
On the completion of this discussion, Ms. Nardone left the meeting.

Policy GBEBC - Gifts to and Solicitations By Staff- New verbage was supplied by MASC, clarifying MA regulations around raffles and games of chance. Committee agreed to forward updates as-is to School Committee for First Reading.

Policy JJE - Student Fund-Raising Activities - New verbage was supplied by MASC, clarifying MA regulations around student participation in the organization and sales for raffles. Committee agreed to forward updates as-is to School Committee for First Reading.

On the completion of these 3 policies and discussion, Assistant Superintendent Smith left the meeting.

Review of Revisions to WPS Wellness Policy - Document was presented at previous meeting. Wellness Committee proposed a newly created sentence that would be added to Wellness Policy ADF that would allow for edits to their handbook without having to go through Policy committee. Committee agreed to forward update to School Committee for First Reading.

Review of Massachusetts Guidance for Artificial Intelligence for K-12 Education - Asst. Superintendent Fratolillo discussed current verbage in both the Middle School and High School Handbook. Policies were reviewed and discussions were had on the relevance and consequences for improper use of artificial intelligence in schools. Also discussed adding verbage into the Primary handbooks. Next steps are to have the policy/handbooks sent back to principals to review consistency of the consequences. It was agreed that it would be more efficient to continune review of these and other subsequent changes at the Policy Subcommittee(rather than directly at School Committee) until the document reflects final status.

Updated Dates to be added to all revisions.

Public Comment:

Questions were asked regarding timing of approval and chain of command to conduct a raffle. Timing to be clarified. Mr. Smith agreed that adding timeline requirements may be a good idea.

Discussion was had regarding the severity of misuse of Artificial Intelligence in regard to 1st and 2nd offense and that consideration should be given to a greater distinction for an escalating disciplinary process between first and second offenses. Discussed adding 3rd Offense and adding verbage into primary handbooks.

The Meeting adjourned at 6:25pm on the motion by Ms. Devine, seconded by Ms. McClean. Motion passed unanimously.
