REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT:
Superintendent Curtin extended congratulations to the Seach School for being named the Safe and Supportive Sensitive School of 2026 by Lesley University Trauma Institute. Thanks expressed to Nicole, Jackie, Lindsey and Alicia as well to Joel Astucia (sp).
Sports celebrations:
-Wrestling-three-peat Bay State Herget Division I champs, also winning the Sportsmanship award. Competing for south sectionals on 2/14.
-Boys Hockey-back to back Bay State Herget Championships. Senior night 2/18.
-Indoor Track-12 girls and 8 boys competing Sunday at divisionals
Quincy College Early College Planning Grant
WHS has been awarded a grant for students to earn Quincy College credits while in high school. Thanks expressed to Karen Monahan, Malissa Northup and Quincy College for their collaboration and support.
Strategic plan:
The team of 19 people met 2/11/26 and discussed demographics of students and district data. The strategic plan is a district wide vision for the next 3 years with focus and values which the individual school improvement plans are based on. Community, staff and student feedback is gathered as well and the Executive Team will meet in late Spring to put together the plan.
NEW BUSINESS
a. Review Draft 2026-27 Academic Calendar - Superintendent Melanie Curtin
The proposed calendar was reviewed. Professional days for staff are for the fi rst 2 days and fi rst day for grades 1-6 & 9 with a half day on 9/3/26 and remaining students on 9/4/26. Pre-Kindergarten will begin on 9/8/26.
b. Budget Sub-Committee - Danielle Graziano
The meeting of 2/4/26 discussed Time Out grant award, FY27 elementary budgets and school staffing requests, change in location of the RISE program, budget advocacy and FY27 budget outlook. Next meeting is 2/25/26.
c. Collective Bargaining Sub-Committee - Tracey Nardone
Collecting bargaining negotiations continue with WEA units A, C, D, and E.
d. Policy Sub-Committee - Mary-Ellen Devine
Proposed additions are based on MASC Guidance and were read into the record. Corresponding legal references will also be updated.

Proposed language:
Raffles and Games of Chance:
By state law and regulation, raffles and games of chance may not be organized by schools as the sponsoring organization. Employees are thus barred from participating in such activities unless doing so as a member of a sponsoring organization, such as a parent or booster organization, as defined by state law and regulation.
Acceptance By the School Committee
All gifts and donations to the district must be accepted by a vote of the School Committee.

Proposed added language:
Students and student groups are barred by state law and regulation from organizing raffles or games of chance, participating in sales of, or purchasing tickets of such games.
- First Reading: Policy KBE - Relations with Parent/Booster Organizations
Proposed language:
4. Parent/booster organizations wishing to conduct raffles and games of chance must comply with all applicable required federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including but not limited to the receipt of all necessary permits, and the filing of all required reports and schedules.
- First Reading: Policy ADF - Weymouth Public Schools Wellness Program
Proposed addition
evidenced based, and related procedures will be implemented in a multidisciplinary fashion consistent with this policy.
Above readings will be moved to a second reading at the next school committee meeting.
Motion by Ms. Dickerman and seconded by Ms. McClean for the school committee to have a table at the Get Ready for Kindergarten event on May 27, 2026 from 5-6pm at 89 Middle Street. Discussion of members attending as participants vs. at a table and more information being requested was had. Subsequent motion by Mrs. Nardone and seconded by Ms. Graziano to table the motion was made. Motion carried unanimously.
