Agenda

Pursuant to Chapter 2 of the Acts of 2025, this meeting will be conducted in person and, as a courtesy, via remote means in accordance with applicable law, extending the provisions originally outlined in Chapter 2 of the Acts of 2023. Remote means will include the WETC8 live feed (https://weymouth.tv/video-on-demand/) and the Zoom link below.  Please note that while an option for remote attendance is being provided as a courtesy, the meeting/hearing will not be suspended or terminated if technological problems interrupt the virtual broadcast unless required by law.

The meeting began at 6:30pm

Mrs. Devine made a motion to move into executive session pursuant to M.G.L. c. 30A, s.21(a)(3): To discuss strategy with respect to a potential bargaining unit for Information Technology personnel, and to discuss strategy regarding potential litigation related to Mass. DLS complaint 26S-7412. Dr. Sherlock-Shangraw seconded the motion. There was no discussion. A roll call vote passed unanimously.

The meeting was called to order at 7:06pm

Motion by Dr. Sherlock-Shangraw to accept the consent agenda. Seconded by Mrs. Devine. Motion unanimously passed.

STUDENT COUNCIL PRESENTATION:
Student Council Representatives Monton, John, Diana, and Thomas gave an update on clubs and activities at WHS, including jazz and marching band, art club, Asian Alliance, Best Buddies, Black Student Union, CTE, Cancer Kids First, Chess Club, Dungeons & Dragons, Human Rights Coalition, Model UN, Robotics, Step team, Student Council, WHTC Mean Girls performance, Powder Puff, and Class Council.

The committee thanked the students for their presentation.

REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT:
Celebration and updates:

Raf Alcantara was named MVP player of the week by WBZ and Weymouth won the Thanksgiving day game.

Thanks were expressed to Christine Keegan and Katie Lenahan for their work with the Dreamcatcher as well as to the volunteers and runners.

Shout outs given to Oliva Jones and Emily Kent for raising over 200 lbs of food in their neighborhood food drive.

Reminder was given that fighting and violence in schools is not tolerated and could result in suspensions, expulsion or charges. Families are encouraged to reach out to the building admin if their student is struggling.

SSEC will present at the 12/18/25 meeting on Capital Reserve Account Request for approval.

Assistant Superintendent Smith shared that school playgrounds are public outside of the school day and that collaboration with Steve Reilly-Park and Rec maintenance will be handled.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE SUB-COMMITTEE REPORT
Members attend other meetings outside of school committee days. Updates of other committees:

a. Budget Sub-Committee - Danielle Graziano
The meeting of December 3, 2025 discussed fair share ear mark grants, asbestos compliance vendor Pennoni, 5 yr approval for student transportation contract, FY25 end of year report submission, an OCR settlement, FY26 budget, FY27 budget planning. New Development Coordinator, Cristine O’Connor was introduced.

b. Collective Bargaining Sub-Committee - Rebecca Sherlock-Shangraw
WEA contracts for units A, C, and D are currently being negotiated.

c. Policy Sub-Committee - Tracey Nardone
The next meeting is on 12/11.

d. Athletics Sub-Committee - Rebecca Sherlock-Shangraw & Mary-Ellen Devine
The meeting on 11/13/25 discussed fall (WHS and middle school) sports records and updates, and winter athletics. Interim Athletic Director Kristen Kelly will present at the next meeting on 12/18/25.

e. Wellness Committee - Rebecca Sherlock-Shangraw
No updates at this time

f. SEPAC - Danielle Graziano
The next virtual meeting will be on 12/16 with a presentation on executive functioning.

NEW BUSINESS

a. School Improvement Plans: Chapman Middle School, Weymouth High School - Mr. Dennis Jones, Mr. Joe Amoroso, Ms. Karen Monahan, Ms. Malissa Northup
rincipals Jones, Monahan and Assistant Principals Amoroso, and Northup presented the third year of their 3 year school improvement plans (attached to these minutes). Updates of strengths and successes on student belonging, student achievement, and family & community were given as well as action steps for improvement. MCAS testing scores were reviewed as well as Panorama survey, Second Step, and AP data.

Discussion of school culture, Sunday messaging, cell phones, attendance, Credit for Life, and MyCAP was had.

Request was made for actual number of students, not percentage to be included on presentations along with school council membership.

All questions by the committee were addressed. The committee expressed their appreciation of the Principals and their presentations.

b. Vote to recognize Information Technology personnel as members of a new collective bargaining unit (action requested)
Dr. Sherlock-Shangraw explained that a requisite number of signed union authorization cards to organize an Ed Tech unit under the WEA umbrella was received. The vote tonight is to voluntarily recognize this unit of 7 members.

Motion by Dr. Sherlock-Shangraw to agree to a voluntary recognition of the Ed Tech personnel contingent upon agreement of the respective parties to a collective bargaining agreement. Motion seconded by Ms. Devine. The motion passed unanimously.

PUBLIC COMMENT
In accordance with Policy BEDH.

Announced that the Americanism Essay contest is open to any student in a school in Weymouth or Braintree in grades 5-8. The question is ‘What does service to your country look like to you?’ The deadline is December 15, 2025.

-Town of Weymouth Scholarships are now open: weymouth.ma.us, under scholarship committee. Last year $144K in scholarships were awarded. Scholarships are for any Weymouth resident, not just graduating seniors.
