Pursuant to Chapter 2 of the Acts of 2025, this meeting will be conducted in person and, as a courtesy, via remote means in accordance with applicable law, extending the provisions originally outlined in Chapter 2 of the Acts of 2023. WEYMOUTH SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm
The Chair informed that the meeting is being recorded and available on WETC.
Mrs. Nardone led in the Pledge of Allegiance.
A moment of silence was observed for the passing of retired WHS educator, Beverly Petrelli.
REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT:
The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent expressed their honor and privilege to work along Ms. Curran and Dr. Sherlock-Shangraw. They shared their gratitude and heartfelt thanks and congratulations for their years of dedication, time and commitment, advocacy, work on the New Chapman school and Covid reopening plans, and chairing and participating in various subcommittees while championing and serving the students and families of Weymouth.
Chair Nardone shared her thanks and appreciation for Ms. Curran’s service since 2014, serving with thoughtfulness, advocacy of the arts and high achievement, honesty, finance oversight of warrants, and her time on numerous subcommittees. Mrs. Nardone also communicated her gratitude for Dr. Sherlock-Shangraw’s service since 2018 and recognized her deep commitment to the Weymouth community, her Covid metrics, collective bargaining negotiations, creation of the Wellness and Athletics subcommittee and wished her luck in her work as a Town Councilor.
Flowers, gifts, and captains chairs were bestowed.
Ms. Palazzo and Senator O’Connor presented citations on behalf of Representative Murphy, and Speaker Mariano of the House of Representatives, and Senator O’Connor of the State Senate. Ms. Palazzo and Senator O’Connor expressed their thanks, appreciation, gratitude and congratulations.
Members of the community also recognized and thanked Ms. Curran and Dr. Sherlock-Shangraw for their dedicated service on the school committee and to the families and students of Weymouth.

Mrs. Curran voiced her honor and privilege to serve the Weymouth community and thanked her husband and 3 children, her ‘common sense’ friends, Nancy Blazo, and shared her best wishes to the 3 new members.
Dr. Sherlock-Shangraw shared her privilege of working on the school committee and expressed her appreciation and thanks to all she’s worked with while serving, her wife Molly, previous committee members, and the WPS educators/employees of WPS.
The meeting paused at 7:30pm and resumed at 7:36pm.

Motion by Dr. Sherlock-Shangraw to accept the consent agenda. Seconded by Mrs. Devine. Motion unanimously passed.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE SUB-COMMITTEE REPORT
Members attend other meetings outside of school committee days. Updates of other committees:
a. Budget Sub-Committee - Danielle Graziano
The next meeting is on January 14, 2026 at 6pm at Abigail Adams. All members of the community are invited.
b. Collective Bargaining Sub-Committee - Rebecca Sherlock-Shangraw
The last meeting was earlier today. Bargaining continues.
c. Policy Sub-Committee - Tracey Nardone
The meeting on 12/11 discussed policy JC-which will have 1st read later in the agenda and policy ADF, wellness.
d. Athletics Sub-Committee - Rebecca Sherlock-Shangraw & Mary-Ellen Devine
No updates at this time.
e. Wellness Committee - Kelly McClean
The meeting of 12/8 discussed updates to the Program Guide manual, a mandated requirement for food programs by the FDA as well as policy ADF.
f. SEPAC - Danielle Graziano
The last meeting had a presentation from the Community Autism Resources on executive functioning. The next meeting is January 20, 2026. MA Advocates for Children will present on the education rights of immigrant and multilingual families.
NEW BUSINESS
a. Proposal: South Shore Educational Collaborative Capital Reserve Account - Mr. Michael Losche 1. Vote to approve the establishment of SSEC Capital Reserve Account (Action Requested)
Mr. Losche thanked WPS as being a beneficial member and explained that with surplus tuition funds the collaborative would like to establish a capital reserve account. DESE requires ⅔ vote from members.
Motion by Dr. Sherlock-Shangraw to approve the establishment of SSEC Capital Reserve Account. Seconded by Mrs. Devine. Ms. Graziano shared that her daughter attends SSEC and to avoid conflict of interest she’d be voting present. Motion passed, 5-yes, 1-present.
b. Athletics Update - Ms. Kristen Kelly, Ms. Karen Monahan, and WHS Student-Athletes
Student athletes Isaac, Isaiah, Sam, Bella, and Raf shared their experiences of being student athletes at Weymouth High School.
AD Kelly presented an update (attached to these minutes) on fall athletics, athletic and community events, financials, winter participation, and uniform refresh.
All questions by the committee were addressed. Athletics will present at the January 21 budget subcommittee meeting. The committee thanked Ms. Kelly for the presentation, involvement and transparency.
c. Policy JC: Attendance Areas: First Reading - Ms. Tracey Nardone (Proposed amendment would update the annual notification date for incoming elementary/Kindergarten students of their school assignment.
Ms. Nardone explained that there is a change in date from May 1 to June 1. Motion by Mrs. Nardone and seconded by Mrs. Devine to move policy JC to a second reading. Motion passed unanimously. There will be an opportunity for public comment at the second reading.

Reminded that the Americanism Essay deadline is January 7 for 5th-8th graders. Prizes for each grade will be 1st-$1K, 2nd-$500, 3rd-$250. Topic is ‘What does service to your country look like to you?’

Expressed her worry and inquired about fencing/gates at Wessagusset for the gap between the building and modular classrooms.
