REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT:

The Superintendent welcomed Acting Mayor Molisse as well as Assistant Superintendent Fratolillo and introduced the Interim Athletic Director, Kristen Kelly. Ms. Kelly has over a decade of athletic administration experience coming to Weymouth from Notre Dame Academy. Ms. Kelly expressed her excitement and appreciation for the opportunity.

Assistant Superintendent Fratolillo, Principal Monahan, and CTE Director DePina will be meeting to talk about the CTE weighted lottery (2026-27SY) so that it may be brought before the Policy Subcommittee.

DESE added a competency requirement of US History for 2027 graduating students. More information to come.

There are ongoing discussions of the proposed cell phone ban bill; passed by the Senate but still waiting for House approval. Looks like the biggest impact would be for students at WHS. Currently phones are stored away during class which would change to no phones bell-bell, similar to Chapman. Changes to the current cell phone policy would not be made for the 2025-26 school year.

The school calendar has been updated for Sep 16, 2025. It is no longer a primary voting day.

Thanks was expressed to Kelly Powers who has added a back to school resource guide to the website. Families, students, and staff may also email info@weymouthps.org with any questions. Ms. Powers and Ms. Lynch will be monitoring this email. Ms. Powers also updated the organization chart with pictures as well as posted a who to contact flow chart.

It was confirmed that new students to a school may contact the Principal to arrange a visit prior to the start of school. There are also socials and orientations before the first day.

First Days of School:

September 4, 2025: First Day of School, Grades 1-6 & 9 - Early Release Day
September 5, 2025: First Day of School, Grades 7-8, 10-12 - Full Day of School
September 8, 2025: First Day of School, Pre-K & Kindergarten

Back to school information is also available at www.weymouthschools.org/backtoschool

Assistant Superintendent Smith shared that there will be more information to come on the Jackson Square town project as the Pingree School will be affected (parking, pedestrian traffic, etc.). Modular structures (for 5th grade classrooms) are on site at Wessagussett, Nash, and Hamilton. Bi-weekly meetings are happening to discuss building maintenance FF&E, tech, and security. The goal is for teachers to have time before the start of school setting up their classrooms.

There is still time to submit bus applications. Communication has been sent out since May. New applications may be placed on a waitlist; hopefully cleared within the first 2 weeks of school. WPS transports close to 3000 students.

The Superintendent and School Committee recognized Ms. Betsy Harris, Community Liaison for her over 20 years of service to the Weymouth Community. Thanks and appreciation was expressed for Ms. Harris’s dedication, kindness, passion, persistence, pictures of community/school events, and flexibility as well as for the forged community, family and student partnerships she created.

Retirement congratulations were shared. Acting Mayor Molisse presented Ms. Harris with a citation for her years of faithful service and event attendance to Weymouth and expressed his thanks for all of her hard work for the betterment of the Weymouth Community.

Ms. Harris expressed her appreciation and thanked her husband, family, School Committee, and the Weymouth community. She shared that it was an honor and pleasure to serve and that she’ll miss all those that she helped and worked with.
