PUBLIC COMMENT
In accordance with Policy BEDH.
Chair Nardone shared that at the Budget subcommittee on 4/29/26 discussion was had on the home to school bus transportation IFB and will be an agenda item on the May 6 budget subcommittee meeting as well. Procurement law MGL C.30B will be followed and adhered to. The contract will be awarded by May 13, 2026.
-Eric Dresser, 72 Rustic
Expressed disappointment on the elimination of French at the middle school and encouraged the committee to revisit the decision and reconsider the elimination.
-Joe Brewster, 285 Pond St.
He thanked bus drive #18 Paul Dechellis and questioned NRT’s feasibility in fulfilling the transportation contract. He encouraged the committee to investigate NRT further. He praised First Student for their drivers and management team. He also noted that First Student donated 9 buses for the Unified Games.
-Sue Laboussiere, First Student #7 bus driver
Expressed concerns over NRT, Inc. and brought to light 6 hour shifts instead of 5, long runs across town for students who attend non neighborhood schools. She questioned if the pricing for the scope of the bid is the same and mentioned late bus omission from the current bid. She shared that NRT was removed from the Framingham contract due to service issues and encouraged the district to pull back and rebid.
-Steven Hilson, 231 Broad St.
Shared his opinion that there is a specification deficiency in the transportation IFB and that it omitted late bus service. He urged the town Chief Procurement Officer to cancel and do a corrective rebid.
-Michelle Majchrowicz, Teamsters 653 and parent
Stated that Weymouth bus drivers are not interchangeable and have built generational trust. Current First Student drivers are not guaranteed their positions; a petition has been submitted to NRT as well as an MOA drafted for NRT to honor and protect driver benefits. NRT has not responded. She expressed her opinion to rebid and have strong teamsters drivers to ensure a smooth transition.
-Sandra Sullivan, 445 Broad St., #10 bus driver
Shared that all of her 30 students transported are not going to their neighborhood school and that drivers are doing 6 plus hours a day.
