Policy Subcommittee Meeting Minutes
April 16, 2026 4:15pm

Members Present: Mary-Ellen Devine, Chair; Ashley Dickerman, Kelly McClean
Also Present: Lindsay Fratolillo, Assistant Superintendent

Meeting was called to order by Mary-Ellen Devine at 4:16pm.

Review of Massachusetts Guidance for Artificial Intelligence in K-12 Education
Discussed that no formal Policy has been created by DESE or MASC. Agreed that use and changes are evolving everyday.
Proposed that guidelines should be created for Students, Parents and staff.
Documentation/consequences can be found in Middle School and High School handbooks under cheating.
Follow up questions will be asked at the next School Committee Meeting.

Review of Policy IKB- Homework
Members took time to read the current Policy on Homework and agreed that it was appropriate as it stands.

Cindy Lyons, as parent and community member, commented with concern regarding homework and the Homework grid. It was addressed that this is actually a part of the school handbooks and should be addressed at the Second Reading of handbooks at the next School Committee meeting.

Elizabeth Foster-Nolan expressed concern that as this was not on the agenda it could be perceived as an open meeting violation as community was not aware of the topic

It was again acknowledged by the Chair of committee that the “grid” is not a part of policy and comments should be directed to second reading of school handbooks.

Question was raised as to the conflicting dates on the bottom of the Policy pages/documents. Question will be forwarded to K. Powers.

Public Comment
Gus Perez, Asked if there were guidelines for staff using Artificial Intelligence and suggested formulating a standardization for use in grading.

Proposed having a final meeting in June to wrap up Artificial Intelligence conversation.

Meeting was adjourned at 5:30 on a motion by Mary-Ellen Devine, seconded by Kelly McClean. Motion passed unanimously.
