Present for the Committee: Mary-Ellen Devine, Rebecca Shangraw, Tracey Nardone
Present for Administration: Mel Curtin, Superintendent, Brian Smith, Assistant Superintendent, Karen Monahan, WHS Principal, Rob O’Leary, Athletic Director
Objectives of the Meeting: To discuss the role(s) of booster groups in Weymouth Public Schools, to establish better communication, and to hear questions/suggestions from booster group leaders.
- Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM.
- Overview of Policies and Booster Group Collaboration
- Mr. Smith provided an overview of school committee and district policies (including KBE) relevant to booster groups.
- Principal Monahan shared her vision for working collaboratively with booster groups.
3. Discussion on Booster Group Structures and Fundraising
- The meeting covered the different structures of booster groups and the distinctions between school-sponsored and booster-sponsored fundraisers.
- The district's crowdfunding policy was reviewed. Several parents shared their experiences with various crowdfunding platforms.
- Challenges in fundraising were discussed, particularly regarding variations in booster group size and participation levels across different teams.
4. Clarification of Policies and Procedures
- Mr. Smith addressed policies and procedures concerning school-sponsored fundraising and answered parent questions.
- Ideas were shared on how to improve the annual dissemination of fundraising information and procedural guidance to booster groups.
5. New Fundraising Initiative
- Mr. Smith introduced the district's new banner/sponsor fundraising initiative.
6. Open Forum and Q&A
- The floor was opened for audience questions and discussion.
