Bus Eligibility & Registration

Per Weymouth School Committee policy EE, WPS provides (free of charge) bus service for students under the following conditions:

  • The student is attending a school within his/her assigned school zone;
  • The student is in Kindergarten through grade six; and
  • The student´s place of residence is over two miles from the school.

Apply for Bus Transportation

Some students enrolled in specific special education programs are eligible for transportation, as outlined in their Individual Education Plan (IEP). For information regarding transportation for special education students, please contact your school office.

Walk Zones

Walk zones are designated distances students walk to school without bus transportation. Grades K-5 have an established walk zone of .5 miles; grades 6-8 have a walk zone of .75 miles; and grades 9-12 have a walk zone of 1 mile. Students inside the walk zone will not be offered bus transportation.

WPS Pay Rider Program

Our Pay Rider program offers an option for students in grades 7-12 to utilize bus transportation by paying a fee. The service is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is also an option for students in grades K-6 who do not qualify for district-provided transportation, with priority given to those living farther away from their school.

The application process for bus transportation, including the Pay Rider program, begins in June for the following academic year. After the initial application period, we accept applications on a rolling basis, providing service as space becomes available on the buses.

Apply for Bus Transportation

Please note that payment of your bus fee must be made by October to avoid losing your seat.

If you reserve a seat on the bus and determine you no longer need it, please notify us by the end of September. Otherwise, you will still be responsible for payment since the reserved seat may prevent another student from securing transportation.

If financial hardship poses a challenge, families may apply for a waiver by completing our Financial Assistance Form and submitting it to their building principal.

2025-2026 Bus Fees: $265 for the 1st child, $265 for the 2nd child, and $105 for the third child. There is a maximum fee of $630 for families who need transportation for 3 or more students.
