Device Program

Weymouth Public Schools has made changes to our 1:1 device program to better reflect how our youngest students learn best. While technology remains an important tool, device use has not shown strong academic benefits at this age.

Our updated plan ensures technology is being used intentionally, while prioritizing foundational skills and social interaction.

To ensure our students have the right tools for their developmental needs and academic development, the following device plan has been implemented:

Kindergarten through Grade 2

Students in these early elementary years will utilize shared devices, including both iPads and Chromebooks. This model encourages developmentally appropriate, collaborative learning and ensures that technology serves as a supplemental tool for specific classroom learning activities.  Devices will remain in school at the end of each day.

Grades 3 through 5

Students in these grades will be assigned a 1:1 Chromebook. Each student will be assigned an individual device to support their increasing digital literacy and learning needs.

  • Important Note on Storage: To ensure devices are charged, protected, and ready for daily instruction, all 1:1 devices for Grades 3–5 will remain in school at the end of each day.

Grades 6 through 12

  • Students in grades 6 through 12 are assigned a 1:1 Chromebook.
  • Every student is assigned a device that should be charged and brought back and forth to school every day.
  • Student devices should not be stored in carts or left in school.
  • All students must update their devices outside the school day to maintain security and compatibility with software.
