Melanie Curtin
Superintendent Melanie Curtin, a proud Weymouth High School alumna and WHS Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, has dedicated over 22 years of service to Weymouth Public Schools. Before being named Interim Superintendent in Spring 2024 and subsequently appointed Superintendent in January 2025, Ms. Curtin served three years as the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Supports and Services. She has also served as the district’s Assistant Director of Instructional Services and Supports and EL Coordinator and served as a teacher, coach, Dean, and Associate Principal at Weymouth High School earlier in her career.
Ms. Curtin holds a master's degree in school administration from Bridgewater State University, a master's degree in education from Fitchburg State, and a bachelor's degree from Jacksonville University.
Brian Smith
Brian Smith is a proud graduate of Weymouth High School with over 22 years of experience in Education Finance and Operations. As Assistant Superintendent at Weymouth Public Schools since July 2018, he plays a pivotal role in managing the district's financial and operational affairs. Prior to his time at Weymouth, Brian held key roles at Babson College and Stoughton Public Schools.
Holding a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Lasell University and an MBA from Babson College, Brian has also served as a part-time faculty member at Lasell University. Beyond his professional endeavors, he has enjoyed coaching youth soccer for over 25 years.
Richard Bransfield
Richard Bransfield, Executive Director of Elementary Education, brings over 40 years of educational experience to Weymouth Public Schools. Before accepting this role, Mr. Bransfield served as the Principal of the Ralph Talbot and Wessagusset Schools. He has also served as a middle school Assistant Principal and K-8 Principal. Mr. Bransfield established the City of Malden's first Innovation School, the Linden STEAM Academy, recognized for its STEAM programming by The Boston Globe and Hechinger Report. A Malden High School alumnus, Richard has been inducted into the school's Hall of Fame as both a coach and athlete.
Mr. Bransfield holds a Master of Education degree from Boston University as well as a bachelor’s degree from Norwich University and is a graduate of the National Institute of School Leadership.
Margaret Verlicco
Dr. Margaret (Meg) Verlicco, Executive Director of Student Services, has dedicated over 19 years of service to Weymouth Public Schools. Dr. Verlicco began her career in Weymouth as a School Psychologist and Team Chair at various primary schools across the district, including the Johnson Early Childhood Center. She has also served as the district’s wraparound counselor and the Assistant Director of Special Education.
Dr. Verlicco completed her doctoral internship at the Judge Baker Children’s Center, Manville School, and her post-doctoral fellowship at Metrowest Neuropsychology. She holds a Doctorate in School Psychology from William James College, a Master of Education degree and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from the University of Massachusetts, and a bachelor’s degree from Colby College.
Jeremy Burm
Jeremy Burm, Director of Human Resources for WPS, is an accomplished educator with over 27 years of experience working with all grade levels, K-12. Mr. Burm has served 22 years in Weymouth as a mathematics teacher, mathematics coach, assistant principal, and principal. He has also served as the WEA president, actively participating in labor relations to maintain positive working relationships.
Holding a B.S. in Biology from the University of North Carolina - Wilmington and a Master's in Education from Fitchburg State University, Mr. Burm has also worked as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Papua New Guinea.
Kristie Edelman
Kristie Edelman, Assistant Director of Special Education, has been an integral part of Weymouth Public Schools for the past eight years. She began her career as a Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist, working in both outpatient and private clinic settings, before transitioning to the same role in the district. Over the years, Kristie expanded her expertise, earning certification as a Reading Specialist and focusing on supporting students with reading disabilities. She later took on the role of Literacy Coach, providing guidance and professional development for teachers and their students.
In addition to her work in the district, Ms. Edelman served as an Adjunct Professor in the Communication Disorders department at Emerson College, where she taught courses in Language and Literacy Disorders. Kristie holds both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Communication Disorders from Boston University. Her diverse background in speech-language pathology, literacy, and teacher support uniquely positions her to lead and advocate for students with diverse educational needs.
