An Ode To The Lunch Ladies at Weymouth High

Spring has finally come around and the wait for home plate to be brushed off is over. Following a spectacular BSC championship the Wildcat baseball team have a lot of hype to live up to. Although the star studded pitching rotation was impacted with the graduation of the vital 2009 players, the return of sluggers such as junior Dylan Colarusso leave no room for excuses. However, an unfortunate string of injuries led to a rough start. After resurfacing at three to three, a tough loss this Thursday put the team below .500 once again. With a competitive schedule such as Weymouth’s, captains John Sartucci, Conor Murphy, and Dylan Colarusso have little room for error while leading their team to another possible tournament appearance.

While the baseball team is struggling, the lacrosse team finds itself with an impressive six to three record. Appearing to be the doormat of BSC lacrosse with only four wins in 2009, the Wildcats are dropping jaws and sniping corners all over Massachusetts. With relentless defense and fast paced, high scoring offense the Wildcats put on quite a show. The mentality instilled by the late, great Tony Manzelli finally appears to be returning giving fans a reason to come out and watch. The next game is against the Needham Rockets this Monday.

Arguably the most impressive Weymouth victory in this early spring is the boy's track team triumph over the Newton North Tigers. Although the Tigers had not been defeated in over a decade, the boys refused to be intimidated. Not too far behind the girl’s track team also are “running” over competition throughout the league with only one loss.
With the countdown of school days beginning and the warm weather coming, now is the perfect time to go out and encourage our athletes. Not to mention, those that appreciate pure athleticism will not be disappointed while attending any of the above mentioned games. The potential for success on all levels is exciting, and personally I think a shout out should be given to the lovely lunch ladies who fuel our athletes.

Delhomme to Browntown?

Today, March 15th, 2010, 35 year old Jake Delhomme has officially signed a two year contract with the Cleveland Browns after being let go by the Carolina Panthers after seven seasons, one leading to a super bowl apperance. Delhomme was said to be the Panther's primary QB after setting almost every QB record for the Carolina franchise. That was until the 2008 seasons playoffs where Delhomme threw numerous interceptions to the Arizona Cardinals in their 33-13 defeat. Since then Delhomme had been in a slump. Once returning in the 2009 season, hoping to make up for the loss, Delhomme was surely mistaken throwing a total of only 8 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in 12 games, missing the remaining 4 with a thumb injury. With those two numbers along with his other numbers, he was at a 59.4 QB rating, which is absolutely terrible. So the Panthers, not being impressed, released him.

The Browns needing a veteran QB to lead the team, after being without a stable QB since the 1999 season, picked up Delhomme for 2 years and roughly 7 million dollars. They had used their QB Brady Quinn to their advantage, almost like trade bait, trading him to the Denver Broncos for RB Peyton Hillis, a sixth-round draft pick and a conditional 2012 draft pick in the trade. They had also released QB Derek Anderson who lashed out on the Browns staff and fans before leaving town. This sure is a risky decision on the Browns behalf, but with a couple more assets also picked up, like ex-New England Patriot TE Benjamin Watson, could work in their favor.
