Winter 2012 Art Term Reports

Art with Ms. Crespi

First Grade

The first graders began this term by entering the Anti-Tobacco Poster Contest sponsored by the Massachusetts Medical Society.  They created thoughtful and impressive drawings that illustrated the assigned theme of ‘How Tobacco is Bad for Your Body’.  Students are eagerly awaiting the results of the drawing at the end of April.  For their next art project first grade artists ‘traveled’ to the country of Japan to explore and observe the tradition of Japanese kimonos.  Through literature and samples of kimonos students sketched their own kimono designs on paper before coloring with crayons.  In March students learned about cray-pas resist painting when they made underwater tropical fish scenes.  Students are currently working on strengthening their drawing skills by creating a royal pet, complete with a castle home!  First graders will color their pets with bright cray-pas while exploring the medium’s blending capabilities.
