Family Engagement

The Johnson Early Childhood Center aspires to engage the child, family and larger community in a collaboration to ensure that our students are involved in life-long learning, and will become contributing members of society. Schools are more effective and caring places when they are an integral part of the community. This contributes to enhanced academic performance, fewer discipline problems, higher staff morale, and improved use of resources. For communities, collaboration with schools can strengthen students, their families, their schools, and the community in which they live. In addition, we teach our students that small hands can do big work. We participate in supporting those in need in our own community through holiday drives, Pennies for Patients, support for our troops, and much more.

“Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life…It’s the way in which we ourselves grow and develop.”

Dr. Dorothy Height, civil rights activist.
