Parent Information:
Parental involvement is critical to the process of providing special education services to students. The Department of Education not only encourages, but requires parental involvement in order to enter a child into special education, and at all decision making TEAM meetings. The "Parent Information Brochure" printed by the DOE outlines parental rights and responsibilities and can be obtained by clicking on the DOE link below. Your child's TEAM chairperson is your direct liaison for special education. The Administrator of Special Education can also provide general information regarding educational law and due process rights. The Weymouth Special Education Parent Advisory Council provides support and informational networking to all parents of children with disabilities.

Special Education Laws & Regulations:
The "Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act" is a federal initiative which guarantees access to the general education curriculum for all students, regardless of their abilities or disabilities. Special Education eligibility and service provision for disabled students is clearly defined by both state statutes and federal regulations. The goal is to have every child educated in the least restrictive environment in which effective progress can be made, while ensuring the student's access to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).
